In the past, we witness the challenges of early parenthood as the father struggles with potty training his young daughter. Through this frustration, he unexpectedly discovers a deep love for her, bonding over her quick wit and resilience.
In the present, the story shifts to the emotional turmoil of a divorce. The mother, having discovered her husband is continuing a relationship with a much younger woman, makes the painful decision to leave the marriage. The film sensitively captures her journey through anger, grief, and ultimately, acceptance.
In the future, the mother relocates back to the Netherlands for a fresh start, while the father chooses to move his new partner into the family home. This decision causes a rift between him and his daughter, leading to a painful severing of their bond as she struggles to accept the new dynamic.
Through three timelines of exploring the bond between a father and daughter amidst the turmoil of divorce, from tender moments of potty training struggles to present-day emotional upheaval, and ultimately, to a fractured relationship as the father's choices drive a wedge between them.
